School Safety, Security & Communication

1. Access To The School

We want to keep our school safe for our students. After 7.50 am, all visitors must register at the Security Guard Post at the front gate. All visitors will be issued a Visitor Sticker for easy identification by staff and students.  They should wear the Visitor Sticker clearly while in school and proceed to the General Office where the office staff can attend to their needs.

2. Morning Drop-Off

Due to constraints of space and for the safety of our pupils, only authorised school buses are allowed to enter the school compound. Parents who choose to drive their children to the school should alight them along Compassvale Link. Students should enter the school via the sheltered walkway to the bistro/quadrangle, and should not take a shortcut across the car-park. Parents should not alight their children near the main gate as it will hinder traffic flow and obstruct authorised vehicles from turning safely into the school. On days of heavy rain, all vehicles are allowed to enter the school. All drivers must exhibit greater care and patience while driving in the school premises. Please keep to the speed limit of 15km/h and follow the directions given by the security guards and parent volunteers.

Parents should not wait or park along Compassvale Link or along the service route between Blocks 269 A to D. It is illegal to do so. Officers from LTA and HDB’s appointed enforcement service provider will patrol the area and enforce summons for illegal parking offences. The school will also do its part in submitting photographs of vehicles parked illegally to the Land Transport Authority for appropriate actions to be taken. Parents should park their vehicles at the HDB car-parks and walk their children to the school. Unauthorised vehicles will not be allowed into the school car-park.

3. Safety Around The School

Students entering the school should walk along the designated walkway provided (See Safe Route to School on page 9). Students should queue when buying food in the Bistro and when they are boarding their respective school buses.  Students should also use the school facilities in the way they are intended for, and exercise care and caution at all times. All students should walk quietly around the school. When the lightning risk alert system is activated, students should stay indoors and avoid all outdoor activities.

4. School Dismissal

All students can be dismissed via the front, side or back gate (near ISH). Parents should work out an agreed meeting point with their children. For the safety of all students, parents should wait at the designated void decks of the HDB flats so as to avoid congestion at the gates. Parents who are driving in to pick up their children can only do so 30 minutes after dismissal or when all our school buses have left. Students should be waiting for their parents at the Meeting Place (outside the General Office). On days of heavy rain, parents will be allowed into the school bistro to wait for their children.

5. Outside the School

Students are to use the pedestrian crossing and obey traffic signals. They are to exercise care and caution when crossing the road, such as always look right, look left, look right again and raise the right hand before crossing the road.

6. Early Dismissal for Pupils who are Unwell

When students are unwell, our staff will contact their parents. Parents will need to come to school to pick up their children. Parents are to proceed to the General office where our staff will be able to render assistance.

7. Breakfast @ VISTA at 7.20am

To encourage greater bonding between parents and their children, we have opened our school bistro to all students and their parents to have breakfast together. This is especially helpful for parents who are rushing off for work and have no time to prepare breakfast at home. The stalls in our bistro will be opened by 7.20 am. When the bell rings, students will have to assemble at the parade square (or hall) and parents are reminded to leave the school premises by 7.50 am.

8. Insurance

The school will provide insurance coverage for all students.  If parents need to claim insurance for their children due to an accident in the school, they may contact the office staff.  Parents may choose to buy additional coverage for students on their own.

9. Emergency Evacuation Guidelines

  • When students hear the siren or the bell ringing continuously, they are to listen attentively to all announcements.
  • Students are to stay calm and listen to all instructions and announcements, and maintain self-discipline at all times.
  • Students are to leave the classroom immediately and walk briskly to the assembly area and avoid trouble spot(s).

10. Attendance

Students are expected to be regular in their attendance. The school cannot grant permission for vacation before the term ends. Please DO NOT book travel arrangements for the last days of the school term. If a student is absent from school, he/she has to produce a medical certificate (MC) or a letter from parents when he/she returns to class. If a student were to be absent for more than 3 consecutive days, parents are to inform the General Office and form teachers immediately.  The student must produce an MC when he/she returns to class.

11. Communication with Teachers/School

If parents need to meet any teacher, they may call and make an appointment, or leave a note with their children for the teachers. If parents need to see the teacher without a prior appointment, they can report to the General Office. Our staff will make the necessary arrangements. In order not to disrupt the curriculum time, parents are encouraged to schedule appointments with the teachers only after school dismissal.

12. Change of Contact Information

Parents are to notify the school promptly if there is a change of address and/or telephone numbers. The school records will be updated accordingly. In case of emergencies, such information is vital.

13. Care for Our School/Personal Properties

The school is our home. We need to take care of the school. Students are expected to take care of their personal belongings. Lockers are provided in the school. Students may bring their own locks with an extra key for their form teachers. To address the issue of heavy school bags, students are expected to pack their bags daily and bring the right books to school.

14. Notices/Circulars

Parents will be informed of school programmes and updates via the school’s smartphone communication system i.e. School Notification and Acknowledgement Console (SNAC). Students are expected to be alert and attentive to the morning announcements so that they can relate accurate information to their parents/guardians. For CCA updates, students should refer to the CCA Notice Board.
